World’s Largest Beer Festival

Oktoberfest, the world’s largest beer festival is held annually in Munich, Germany. It is a 16 to 18-day folk festival beginning from 17th September till the first weekend in October. Since 1810, Oktoberfest has been an important part of Bavarian culture with more than 6 million people attending the event every year! Cities across the world also hold Oktoberfest celebrations that are modeled after the original Munich event.

In the interest of our kids, this week is the perfect time to talk about the history of Oktoberfest. It does not always have to be about German beer, German sausages or dancing on the tables.

So get your precious ones interested in learning about Germany by serving them some of the following Oktoberfest-themed foods. Listed below are some of the exciting kid-friendly foods to celebrate Oktoberfest that can be enjoyed by the entire family during this exciting time.

Dampfnudle

From its name, one might mistake it for an extremely boring kind of food. Don’t be fooled! Dampfnudle is actually very interesting- the name literally means steamed noodle. These bread dumplings can be eaten as a vegetarian main dish with herbs, vegetables, and cheese. Or if you prefer sweet, you can order one for dessert, covered in vanilla sauce, hot cherries, and melted butter. Simple, yet delicious!

Brat Hot Dog

Another exciting delight for the little ones is a Brat Hot Dog. Now don’t you go worrying when you hear this.

It’s not as bad as it sounds! It’s actually a combination of Frankfurter with sautéed onions, ketchup or BBQ sauce. Serve this with fries and your kids will have Oktoberfest hangovers too!
