Top 10 Kid-Friendly Restaurants in Madrid

kid-friendly restaurants in madridOur time in Madrid was rather short-lived, which was a shame because the kids loved the city as much as us adults did. Madrid, the Spanish capital, is a city filled with green park spaces, the most popular being Buen Retiro, where the kids enjoyed relaxing after a long day of walking around the city.

One thing about large cities is that there isn’t a shortage in the diversity of restaurants to choose from, and Madrid is a great example of that. Below is our list of top 10 kid-friendly restaurants in Madrid, recommended by us and locals we met along the way!

1) Chocolatería San Ginés

churro dipped in thick chocolate…yum!

After our time in Valencia, we couldn’t get enough of churros or the thick delicious hot chocolate they dip it in. Chocolateria San Gines was the perfect spot in the city to feed our cravings. Due to their late hours, we loved stopping by after dinner for ‘dessert’. Hours Mon-Tue 6pm-7am; Wed-Sun 9:30pm-7am

Located on Paseo de la Florida, this Spanish bodegón (tavern) has been around since 1888 and is originally a cider house. But, don’t let that deter you, the place is great for families – you share tables with other patrons and mingle with the locals. Their specialty is cider-marinated roast chicken, which is incredible! If you’re taking the metro, it’s walkable from the metro Principe Pio – a definite must if you’re in the city and want something local.

4) Hanan

If you’re kids are as adventurous as LouLou and Jaf, you have to try some Ethiopian food while in Madrid. You won’t be disappointed dining at Hanan. We didn’t really know what to order when we got there, but the staff are super friendly and helpful, and we went with their recommendation. Ethiopian food is all about sharing the meal with the family, which is exactly what we love doing! Must have the veggie sambusas to start off with.

All the food served is organic, they even sell organic food and if you’re in Madrid for a while, attend one of their activity workshops geared towards the kids.

They serve Thai tapas…of course we had to include it in this list! Tapas are perfect for sharing, and as a family we love ordering a bunch of items from the menu in order to taste them all. The menu is sprawling, so you won’t be at a loss for options – we recommend the duck spring rolls, fish cakes, squid and chicken satay. For Thai food in Spain, we were pretty impressed!
