Every last Friday of the month locals on the island of Oahu congregate to Kakaako, Hawaii’s most recently developed neighborhood located in Honolulu. Bustling with trendy new restaurants, art and fashion start-up’s, its the new urban community for up and coming businesses.
It’s also the home of EAT THE STREET, where foodies from across the island meet every last Friday of the month to binge on the latest trends in food and beverages. EAT THE STREET is the brain child of Poni and Brandon Askew, Owners of Street Grindz who’s mission was to create a platform for Hawai’i’s mobile food industry. Today, EAT THE STREET regularly attracts locals and tourists, those hoping to sample some of the best street food the island has to offer. There is so much variety here you’re bound to find something your little ones will love!
With our kids extra curricular activities taking priority, its been difficult for us as a family to get down to Kakaako for some well deserved over indulgence. We were excited about this particular EAT THE STREET because of its theme;
Yes, my kids love lumpia, the Filipino version of an egg roll. But, we’ll cover that later.
Tonight its all “us and eating”!
We arrived at 3pm, just the right amount of time to scout the trucks/tents and strategically plan our dinner for the evening.

As we made our way around the parking lot it started to rain. But behold, everyone was already prepared and the place started to get busier. We visited 6 trucks that were serving lumpia and the kids devoured that in no time. Lou Lou wanted to try the Fried Spam Musubi and the Cookie Butter Chocolate lumpia, so we headed in that direction.
The wait was literally 3 minutes, because it wasn’t crowded yet and she tanked that all down with just one gulp of passion orange juice! My goodness, I was impressed! Jaf was already full of lumpia and a waffle hot dog and opted for a popsicle and some face painting instead.

As we say hello and goodbye to our fellow food bloggers at ETS, we pass the balloon man and do the happy dance as the DJ starts pumping up the crowd with his mixes. It’s a great vibe and we’re sad to leave but we have a long day tomorrow as we prepare for Chinese New Year with friends.
The next EAT THE STREET is February 28th and the theme is CHOCOLATE!
