Sunsets, Vineyards and Camping in Bordeaux, France

Apart from the fact that our GPS sent us to the wrong location (which I hope the campsite fixed by now), this was by far our favorite campsite in France. Situated in the beautiful region of Aquitaine, Bordeaux in Saint-Emilion, we explored one of the worlds finest vineyards while taking in the beauty of its gorgeous countryside and quaint town at Camping Yelloh! Saint-Emilion, a 4-star campsite.

We spent an entire week here, just enjoying the campsites facilities. The mini lake with boats and kayaks were on-site and free to use. They also had a kids club where we could leave the children for up to 2-hours so we could take our bikes to visit the surrounding wineries just minutes away. Prices for Grand Cru (a wine of the most superior grade, or the vineyard that produces it) from Saint-Emilion are generally in the $20 to $35 range with the highest quality examples potentially jumping into the $60 to $80 range. The wines are incredible and we must have stockpiled bottles from each vineyard we visited. The town of Saint-Emilion is an easy walk or short bike ride were you can explore and shop.

Eight generations of the same family have contributed to this estate’s history. These roots date back to the late 18th century when Pierre Jean, a vineyard worker in Saint Pey D’Armens began to grow his own vines, which he later left to his children. The current owner’s great grandfather, who had the unforgettable name of Jean Jean, succeeded in promoting the wine abroad and entered it in competitions & exhibitions. Cécile Jean, Michel’s daughter, represents the ninth generation of her family at Château Trimoulet. Notice her silhouette in the logo on the end.

The campsite is lovely and has shaded pitches which were large, with plenty of privacy. The outdoor swimming pool was heated and had a water slide the kids loved. We spent most of our evenings at the golf park and bouncy castle or just having wine and drinks at the local restaurant on site. Every night they had entertainment for the kids which included a disco, sing-a-longs and even a clowns. Although most of the campers were from France, Germany and Italy the kids did manage to communicate and make a few friends the short time we were there.

This campsite also had chalets for rent which included kitchenettes for those who have no RV or don’t like sleeping in tents. The nearest supermarket (Carrefour) is only 10 minutes away from the site and there is also a small supermarket on the property and fresh baked bread served from 7am until sold out.

Riding her scooter around the vineyards, watching the sunset 🙂

Every night we would ride our bikes out into the country side to watch the sunset. We were in one of the most beautiful vineyards in the world and we knew it.

Simply amazing….
