Dole Plantation: The World’s Largest Maze

Did you know that the world’s largest maze is located in Hawaii. Yup, on our islands, specifically the island of Oahu.

Where is it you ask?!

*drumroll*

At the Dole Plantation, located in Wahiawa, of course!

dole plantationYeah, we were surprised to learn that when we visited a few week’s ago. According to their website,

In 2008, Dole Plantation’s giant Pineapple Garden Maze was declared the world’s largest maze. The maze stretches over three acres and includes nearly two and one-half miles of paths crafted from 14,000 colorful Hawaiian plants.

It’s amazing to think that we’ve lived on Oahu this long and not known that! Thankfully, we finally found an opportunity to visit last week. This wonderful attraction did a great job at keeping the kids busy for more than a few hours.

Besides the large pineapple shaped maze, Dole Plantation is known for a few more things. They have a great train ride called the “Pineapple Express.”

“All aboard for two miles of pineapple fun! This fully narrated, twenty-minute train tour is an experience for the whole family. You’ll learn the story of pineapple in Hawai‘i, hear how James Drummond Dole founded his world-famous agricultural empire where Dole Plantation stands today, and travel through the stunning scenery of the island’s famous North Shore. “

And finally, one of our favorite, especially on a hot day is the famous Dole Whip, which is a must after you’ve visited the park.

Yes, highly recommended for families. You get to see a different side of the island, away from the beaches, and of course taste some delicious pineapple ice cream!

  1. I’m so glad to hear that the Dole farm is actually worth visiting. I’ve heard that it’s an awesome spot to take kids when you need a short break from the beach, so I’m glad to get a first hand account.

Even the drive there is unique – you get to see a different landscape, a lot of fields…you kinda forget where you are! Hope you get a chance to visit soon.

  2. I went to the Dole Plantation… 3 years ago and still remember it vividly – that pineapple ice cream is bomb!
