The kids tried moules frites for the first time when in Belgium last summer, and sure enough, with their love of seafood, it was a hit! Moules frites, a popular Belgian dish consists of mussels cooked in a white wine sauce, with a side of fries (and often times bread) to dip into the delicious broth.
LouLou has been asking to have a pot of it whenever we go out to eat, but it’s not that easy to find here in the US. Since it doesn’t have a lot of ingredients, I knew it wouldn’t be too difficult to make at home. After scouring Pinterest for a few hours (so easy to get sidetracked!), I found the perfect set of recipe instructions by Heather of Illustrated Bites.
Seriously, how cool are her illustrations? So easy to follow along, and very kid-friendly! The kids love the drawings and how-to’s…we’ll be making a few more things from her blog. The original recipe for mussels and fries can be found here: Belgium’s National Dish.
